Our Mission
The Team and Family at KIPP Journey Academy work diligently daily to ensure that we accomplish all that we endeavor.

KIPP Journey Academy will develop students with disciplined minds that are committed to academic excellence and leadership so that they will be successful in college preparatory high schools and competitive colleges of their choosing. By taking pride in themselves, their culture, and community, our students through acts of kindness and service will resolve to change the world in which they live.

The Five Pillars

• More Time
KIPP Journey Academy students will receive a significantly greater amount of instructional time than their peers attending Columbus City Public Schools. The school day will commence at 7:25 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. All students will be required to attend Saturday school as well as three weeks of summer school. In addition, students will also be required to complete two hours of homework each night.

• Choice and Commitment
The decision to join the KIPP Journey Academy team and family is a choice exercised by all parents, students, and staff. Evidence of this choice is in the signing of the Commitment to Excellence form which is signed by all. By signing this commitment, the entire Journey Team and Family which includes parents, students, teachers, and all other faculty has dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to doing whatever it takes without fail to realize our shared vision.

• Power to Lead
Having the power to make decisions that positively impact the lives of children is at the very core of KIPP’s fundamental beliefs. The school leader is empowered to make timely decisions involving staffing, curriculum and instruction, and other day to day operational decisions. In addition, as professionals teachers are entrusted to determine the best instructional course of action need to achieve intended outcomes. Lastly, as our vision asserts the Journey Academy student at the completion of their four years will be equipped with the academic stamina and strength of character to lead change in their own lives.

• Focus on Results
At KIPP Journey Academy we recognize that results speak many volumes. As a result, we will be a professional learning community that is driven by data. All decisions made within our school will be made based on sound empirical sources. The school leader will be responsible for tracking the progress of all teachers and staff; teachers will be responsible for tracking the progress of the learning taking place for every child on their team; and students will be responsible for being active participates in their learning process.

• High Expectations
KIPP Journey Academy students and faculty are committed to giving our very best at all times. We will settle for nothing less. All of our students will perform at proficient or above levels on Ohio Achievement Tests in all tested areas and will show NCE gains on the Stanford 10 commensurate of students on track for college. We expect that all of the scholars of our school will go on to high performing college preparatory high schools and will have the character and leadership skills necessary to for success throughout their lives.
